Summary Draft 1

In the article, 'Green buildings, Singapore' natural ally for a greener future', MacKenzie (2017) states that green buildings designs portray a conducive environment for living and carry significance to Singapore's counter against climate change. With the current state of Singapore’s economic rise, buildings have generated increasing amount of carbon emissions which significantly contributed to climate change. It steered an opportunity to counter the issue through its green building design and technology. Asia Square is one exemplary example of an efficient green building in Singapore. In comparison to other buildings, it proved a reduced energy consumption rate with its concept. Applying bright colors, fully utilizing sunlight, use of technology, selection of sustainable materials and working with interested parties are design elements that should be incorporated to counter climate change. With the adoption of design and sustainability, Singapore guarantees the reduction of environmental impacts by hosting events to spread awareness of going green and enhancing ways to fight climate change.

As a Garden City, leaders, building designers and big organisations were not the only ones who should prevent climate change. It is now needed for the community and individuals in the country to be involved in enhancing the environment and reduce the impacts towards it.

REPORTED SPEECH PROBLEM SCENARIO

Deon claimed that being lazy was his bad habit. He would directly go home after school and do nothing. He added that when future plans were made, they were not being followed. He will then express his regret on the following day as the day with plans was not accomplished.
He found that he should list down plans on a planner and strike them out once they are completed. This was in order to make him feel that he had spent his time productively and importantly, it would make him feel accomplished.

SELF INTRODUCTION

Dear Mr Blackstone,

I am Muhammad Aufalmaram Bin Samsulbahri. I am writing to you this letter to introduce myself as one of your students in this Effective Communication module that you are teaching. I graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a diploma in civil engineering with business and furthered my studies in the civil engineering programme offered by SIT.

I do enjoy playing sports such as soccer or touch/contact rugby during my free time and I am currently in the school's contact rugby team. Besides being physical, i have a softer side of me that loves watching movies and spending time with my family.

In terms of my weaknesses in communication, I display limited sentence structure, vocabulary and grammar use in sentences. With an addition to my dislike in reading and writing, it results in difficulties displaying my ideas or purpose due to the lack of proper sentence structure. I believe to improve communication better, one has to be knowledgeable. I am unfortunately not all-knowing and lacking in that set of skill.

However, in terms of my strengths in verbal communication, I believe I am a good listener. I do listen before stating my opinions and thoughts on a topic. This ensures mutual respect between me and the speaker.

One of my goals in this module is to improve and minimise my weaknesses stated. Moreover, having fun and enjoying the learning process while addressing them is my upmost expectation in this module. I believe with the knowledge and skills learned, i will be better equipped for the future in many different aspects in my career.

I hope my goals will be achieved and I am looking forward to absorb more skills and knowledge from you in the upcoming lessons. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Aufal Samsul
